I am playing Ange Vierge on iOS and the theme song is great. Konomi Suzuki is one of the best singers to have come from Anison Grand Prix, and she has her own card (actually two versions) in the game!! Later I realised that this is actually a TCG franchise and the social game is only half of the whole thing, but the manga rather focuses on a different set of characters so it allows a lot of creativity without having the game story restricting the manga and vice-versa.
The theme song came out as the B-side of the Watamote OP. Which means it’s written by the uber-enigmatic Aki Hata-sensei. To date, I have only translated 8 Aki Hata-penned songs despite my impressive t/l count for a good reason: her songs are unbelievably hard to understand, in Japanese, let alone attempting to retell it in English.
I once interviewed Aki Hata on theinterviews and the question went like, “what’s your opinion on wordplay lost in translation, do you get angry” and she just briefly answered “can’t you put in a footnote or something?” (which we can on AL) but I do remember someone’s t/l having tons of them on one of her hyperactive songs.
As far as the actual song goes, the subject switches explicitly between “us” and “you”, which is why the flow is somewhat obstructed. Admittedly, thi is one of the less-challenging Hata-sensei songs to translate but still a good observation of how she does it differently from the other lyricists around.
I’m so excited. This user’s translations are just class and I hope they stay!
For about 6 months I was struggling to like any anison that came out in 2014, but Ange Vierge’s theme Tears Breaker broke the duck for me (will discuss it later) and this song is… just… loony-good.
I don’t rate Aoi Yuuki as seiyuu but her cute vocals here are perfect for this jazzy sugartrip. The lyrics though are pretty mystifying at first, but if you read closely it’s like some sort of overlord chatting about his servants. Weird. I tried to find any Cupid-like character in Gaworare but can’t, just the flags the hero need to snap off.
Anyway, I’m back to translating, but World Cup will occupy my sleeping time since the matches are liek before dawn. Argh.
People complainin’ about Kotono Mitsuishi being cast as Usagi for the new Sailor Moon because of her age (saying she’s too old).
Excuse you, are you insinuating that because she’s in her late 40s she must automatically sound like some croaky old lady?
Please feel free to go fuck yourself in the corner with a sharp object.
Age is no limit for seiyuu (some have timeless voices - Gundam seiyuu sound the same in 2010s Gundam crossover games as they did in the 70’s). Hayashibara is 50-plus but will still sound cuter than you
